Staying safe on Instahome

Instahome is a technology marketplace that connects people. It is important to take sensible precautions when arranging property visits and transactions. The tips below can help you stay safe.

For tenants and buyers

  • Inspect the property in person before making any commitment.
  • Where possible, arrange visits during daylight hours.
  • Tell a friend or family member where you are going and when.
  • Verify that the property is genuinely owned by the person offering it.
  • Confirm that the landlord or agent is authorised to rent or sell it.
  • Avoid carrying large amounts of cash to viewings.
  • Use written agreements before paying any money.
  • Verify payment details directly with the verified owner or agent.
  • Keep receipts and records of any payments you make.
  • Never share your password or one-time (OTP) codes with anyone.
  • Report listings or requests that look suspicious or too good to be true.

For landlords and sellers

  • Where appropriate, verify the identity of people visiting your property.
  • Keep your personal and identity documents protected.
  • Do not publish unnecessary private information in listings or photos.
  • Use safe meeting arrangements, and consider having someone with you.
  • Document rental or sale agreements in writing.
  • Report any harassment, threats or fraudulent behaviour.
